I can remember when that movie, the one where Balboa faced up
to some ogre of an opponent way bigger, harder hitting and ugly.
It was so full of crap.
That could never happen.
It did last night.
And once again, Rocky won......

Goliath defeated: British boxer David Hayes beats the Beast
from the East to win world heavyweight title.
By Peter Higgs
08th November 2009

The fight was billed as David Vs Goliath and few believed the
Beast from the East could be overcome.
But last night Britain's David Haye became
the WBA heavyweight champion of the world after turning
giant killer to beat Nikolay Valuev.
Despite being 9in shorter and almost 7st lighter than his
ogre-sized opponent, Haye rocked 7ft 2in Valuev in the last
seconds of the final 12th round.

Sorrow and joy: David Hayes screams with delight after winning while Nikolay Valuev looks glum and stunned.

He clinched victory via a majority decision over the former champ.
Haye, 29, who weighs 15st 8lb, adopted cautious tactics for
most of the fight, staying away from Valuev’s massive 84in reach.

But he landed two thunderous left hooks in the final round that
left the 22st Russian momentarily wobbling on his feet.
It is the first time in his career that he had ever looked like
being knocked down.

Giant killer: Jubilant Hayes is carried by his British fans following the incredible bout in Nuremberg, Germany.

Take that: Haye lands a left at Valuev after breaking his right hand earlier because he hit his opponent so hard.

Smash: Haye lands a heavy punch squarely on Valuev face in one of the many moments that convinced judges.

Haye thought he had broken his right hand earlier in the fight from hitting Valuev so hard.
He said: ‘I’m pretty sure I broke my hand but it’s a small price to pay for being the heavyweight champion of the world.’
Valuev, 36, appeared frustrated at times as he lumbered after an elusive Haye – but the British fighter kept his composure throughout.
Haye won a unanimous points decision, with scores from the judges in his favour by 116-112, 116-112 and 114 -114.

Running rings: Hayes won a majority decision after 12 rounds as he avoided being hit too often by Valuev.

Champion: The new WBA heavyweight boxing world champion celebrates with his fans and helpers.

Haye said: ‘It means everything to me. From the time I was a little baby I said I would be the heavyweight champion of the world and tonight my dream came true.
‘I tried to hit him with big shots and in the last round I did it. I tried to win it extensively with my left hand. My right hand is very tender, very sore.
‘I knew I would win it when I signed the contract. I knew I was the best heavyweight.
‘I tried to be more aggressive. I’m a guy who says what he thinks, I think what I say and sometimes it upsets people.

David Vs Goliath: The two boxers face each other a day before the big fight, showing Valuev's size advantage
‘I know I didn’t respect him before the fight, but he’s a very strong man.
‘Tonight I’m going to party. I’m going to party all night long.’

A good boxer will always beat a bruiser, look at when leonard fought Hagler, at the time hagler was one of my heros, I was only a kid, and I thought he would knock leonard out of the ring, and he probably would have done if he could have hit him. Laughing

True. And just look at the lean, mean Haye compared to plump yuri.
I think the roosky was over confident and relied too much on his size.
Haye had obviously worked out and earned his payday.
